I stumbled across this interesting infographic from KISSmetrics addressing a hot topic for digital retailers right now: shopping cart abandonment.

How else can online retailers prevent shopping cart abandonment? In addition to the ways suggested in the infographic, here are a few of my own suggestions:
- Provide abundant and informative product data — if you have all the information your customers need on your website, they won’t have to go looking elsewhere to learn more about a product. Even if they find the exact same thing for a better price, your site will appear much more credible, and safer, because you have so much high quality data.
- Include multiple, high quality images of your products — this ties in with the suggestion above. Images are the most powerful feature when selling online; containing multiple, high quality photographs of a product could be what sets you apart from the competition.
- Make your site trustworthy — the more credible and legitimate your online store appears, the more comfortable a customer will be buying from you. No one wants to give out their credit card numbers and other personal information to a shady-looking site!
